Lawsuit over Karaoke: What are the rules?

“Earlier this week, WSYR news reported that the music industry was going after a pub in Syracuse, NY for having a karaoke night and not paying the related performance fees (the pub claims that only five songs in the rotation were on the list of complaints). Apparently, industry lawyers actually bothered to hire a private investigator to go to the pub and write down the songs being sung.” Our little advice, next time don’t sing your favorite tunes outloud in the public, you might end up being arrested too for not paying royalty fees. Microsoft to bet ‘hundreds of millions of dollars’ on Zune

Police: Camcorder Used In Movie Piracy

“Crockett and Tubbs — the crime fighting duo of “Miami Vice” — woulda been proud. West suburban police busted a Chicago man at a midnight showing of the new film “Miami Vice” as he allegedly tried to film the flick with a camcorder. “We never had one like this before,” said a spokeswoman for the Lombard police, which arrested the man early Friday after police said he was caught with a Sony Handycam mounted on a tripod at the AMC Yorktown 18 theaters…” (Read full article here)
